Shimla:
Santosh Kumar has been elected president of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office Employees’ Union, Shimla district, securing a decisive victory in the elections held during the general house meeting at the Savings Hall of the DC Office.
The meeting was chaired by outgoing president Amit Thakur and attended by authorised representatives from various subdivisions of the district. Before the elections, Thakur presented the achievements of his executive body and announced its dissolution.
The polling process was conducted smoothly under the supervision of election officer Ramit Kumar and assistant election officer Pitambar Sharma. A total of 142 votes were cast for the president’s post, of which Santosh Kumar secured 89 votes. His nearest rivals, Raj Krishna Thakur and Amit Ghamata, received 12 and 40 votes respectively, while one vote was declared invalid.
Alongside the elections, the new executive body was formed unanimously. Ashish Thakur was appointed vice-president, Sulakshana Chauhan as vice-president (women), Heena as vice-president (Class IV), Khime Ram as general secretary, Vinod Kashyap as joint secretary, and Sahil Sharma as treasurer. Sub-divisional presidents have also been given the status of vice-presidents in the district executive.
The new executive will have a tenure of three years. The general house also authorised the newly elected president to nominate other office-bearers and executive members.
Expressing gratitude, Santosh Kumar said the new team will prioritise safeguarding employees’ interests and addressing their concerns effectively, while raising their issues with the administration in a coordinated manner.
