Kullu, October 1: A district-level program was held at the Multipurpose Building to mark International Senior Citizens Day. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma attended the event as the chief guest and honored senior citizens, wishing them a happy, healthy, and long life.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma said that senior citizens are an invaluable asset to our society. Their contribution to the building and development of society is incomparable. Their experience, knowledge, and guidance provide the right direction to the younger generation. He added that respecting senior citizens, caring for them, and resolving their problems with sensitivity and promptness are among the priorities of the district administration. The administration is continuously striving to ensure that the benefits of government welfare schemes for senior citizens reach eligible individuals.
He said that the experiences of elders are important for both the current and new generations. Everyone in society should understand their problems and treat them with respect, sensitivity, and cooperation.
On this occasion, District Welfare Officer Girdhari Lal Sharma welcomed and greeted all present, including the chief guest. He said that International Senior Citizens Day is an important opportunity to connect with seniors, learn from their experiences, and promote meaningful dialogue between the older and younger generations.
A free health check-up camp for senior citizens was also held during the event, offering blood pressure, diabetes, eye, and dental check-ups. Additionally, activities such as chess, carrom board, song, and dance were organized for senior citizens’ entertainment and active participation.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ranjeet Thakur, District Program Officer Kundan Lal, District Public Relations Officer Anil Dhiman, were present in the program.
Red Cross Secretary Chandrakesh Sharma, District Language Officer Promila Guleria, representatives from various non-governmental organizations, and other dignitaries were present. All conveyed the message of maintaining respect, cooperation, and sensitivity toward senior citizens.
