Shimla: The Shimla district administration has notified a revised traffic management plan for Theog town to ease congestion and improve road safety, with designated parking areas, loading and unloading points, bus stops, no-parking zones and one-way traffic arrangements.
The notification has been issued by Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap under Sections 115 and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, keeping public convenience and safety in view.
Under the revised plan, designated parking spaces include eight light vehicles in front of Verma Complex near Janog Ghat, eight near Joshi Associates at Prem Ghat Chowk, 20 along the valley side from the Forest Office main gate to Zero Point on Chikhar Pump House Road, and 10 near the Old Bailey Bridge.
The bypass stretch has also been earmarked for parking, including space for four heavy vehicles from Rahighat to Zero Point and 100 light vehicles along the valley side of Theog Bypass (NH-05), between Rahighat and Premghat.
For taxis, parking has been designated for four vehicles at the New Bus Stand, three at the Old Bus Stand and one at the Civil Hospital Theog premises.
A loading and unloading point has been designated near Hotel Hidimba. Commercial loading and unloading will be permitted before 8 am and after 8 pm.
The administration has also notified several no-parking zones, including the stretch from Janog Ghat towards Rampur side for 500 metres, Janog Ghat to Prem Ghat Chowk, the hill-side stretch from HDFC Bank at Prem Ghat towards Rahighat, the Civil Hospital approach road and the area from Rahighat Chowk to Rajan Tyre. A no-U-turn zone has been notified between Janog Ghat and Raighat.
The New Bus Stand and Old Bus Stand have been designated as bus stops, while school buses will be allowed designated stopping points at Rahighat Chowk, Zero Point on Chikhar Pump House Road, the Old Bus Stand and Prem Ghat Chowk.One-way traffic will operate between Prem Ghat and Civil Hospital Theog from 9 am to 9:45 am and from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
The movement of heavy vehicles through Theog market will remain prohibited from 8 am to 8 pm. However, transport buses and vehicles carrying goods to the Theog vegetable market will be exempted from the restriction.The district administration has urged residents, commuters and commercial vehicle operators to follow the notified arrangements and park vehicles only at designated locations.
The notification has also invited suggestions and objections from the public. Written objections may be submitted to the District Magistrate, Shimla, within 30 days from the date of publication of the notification.
