Shimla: With the monsoon increasing the risk of contamination of water sources, SUEZ India and Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL) have issued a public health advisory urging residents to take precautions against water-borne diseases such as jaundice, diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid.
The advisory recommends that citizens boil drinking water for at least 10 minutes before consumption, avoid eating uncovered or unhygienic food, and maintain strict personal hygiene to minimise the risk of infection during the rainy season.
According to the company management, heavy rainfall can contaminate water sources, leading to a rise in gastrointestinal infections and other water-borne illnesses. Residents have been advised to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and clean water before meals and after using the washroom, while ensuring that only safe drinking water is consumed.
SJPNL and SUEZ India, which jointly operate Shimla’s 24×7 drinking water supply project, reiterated their commitment to providing high-quality, potable tap water to every household in the city. The companies also appealed to citizens to follow the advisory carefully to help prevent the spread of seasonal diseases and ensure a healthy monsoon.
