The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the murder of Saraswati Paradise School director Manisha Mittal has uncovered that the two alleged shooters had carried out a month-long reconnaissance in Shimla before executing the June 13 attack.
According to investigators, the accused surveyed the school and surrounding area several weeks before the murder to plan the crime. The SIT, headed by Additional SP Mehar Panwar, is examining multiple angles, including contract killing, personal rivalry and a property dispute.
Police have conducted raids in Delhi and Haryana, scrutinised bank transactions of the accused and questioned over 50 suspects to identify the alleged mastermind behind the killing.
Investigators said the accused claimed the firearm used in the crime was purchased around five years ago from a person who has since died. Police are verifying the claim while tracing the weapon’s origin.
Manisha Mittal was shot dead near the main gate of Saraswati Paradise School on June 13 while returning to the campus. CCTV footage captured the attackers opening fire before fleeing the spot.
Shimla Police arrested the two accused—Ashish Ahlawat of Jhajjar and Deepak of Rohtak—within 39 hours of the murder. The car allegedly used in the crime and the firearm have been recovered.
Officials said the investigation has entered its final stage, with efforts focused on exposing those who allegedly planned and financed the murder.
