Secretary of District Legal Services Authority Solan, Akanksha Dogra, said that the entire society needs to work in unity to deal with drug abuse and illegal trafficking; only then can we envision a drug-free society. Akanksha Dogra was addressing an awareness camp organized by the District Legal Services Authority Solan here today.
Akanksha Dogra said that special campaigns are being run for awareness and sensitization against drug abuse to celebrate the International Day. She said that the slogan of the International Day against Drug Abuse 2025 is ‘Breaking the Chains: Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery for All.’ The main objective of this day is to save children from drug abuse and to ban drug trafficking so that the future of children can become golden.
He said that on this day, awareness campaigns are run against drug abuse all over the world. In this, people are made aware of the harm caused by drug abuse. In India, there are strict laws in place to combat drug abuse and illegal trafficking; however, there remains an urgent need to raise public awareness. For this, the cooperation of the public is expected. He said that on the occasion of International Drug Abuse Day, initiatives should be taken to bring those people around who are involved in drug abuse and illegal drug trade on the path of truth.
Akanksha Dogra provided detailed information to the women present in the camp about free legal aid, mediation, the Lok Adalat State Victim Compensation Scheme and NALSA. She said that the role of mediation is important in the judicial system. Better efforts can be made towards the settlement of pending cases through mediation. Mediation centers have been opened in all the courts. Trained mediators have been appointed to conduct mediation in these centers. The services of mediation are being provided free of cost to the common citizens. Common citizens can voluntarily settle their cases through mediation.
On this occasion, District Health Officer Dr. Amit Ranjan Talwar provided detailed information about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO Act), and the Preconception and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act.
Drug inspector Preeti Sharma provided information about the side effects of drug abuse. Psychiatrist Dr. Vaishali Sharma provided information about the diagnosis of patients who have become mentally ill due to drug abuse.
Integrated Child Development Project Officer Solan Kavita Gautam, while providing information related to her department, said that the state government is implementing many schemes for the overall welfare of women. Emphasis is being laid on women’s empowerment through Indira Gandhi Balika Suraksha Yojana, Swayam Rozgar Yojana, and the Interest-Free Loan Scheme.
Anganwadi supervisors and Anganwadi workers participated in the camp.
