₹13.75 lakh public digital library inaugurated; district-level Under-14 girls’ sports competition concludes
Solan: Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi said sports play a vital role in the overall development of young people and help inculcate discipline, confidence, teamwork and leadership skills.
Awasthi was speaking at the closing ceremony of the three-day district-level Under-14 Girls’ Sports Competition (Minor and Major) held at Government Senior Secondary School (CBSE), Kunihar.Around 800 girl students from 76 schools across the district participated in the competition. Events including kabaddi, volleyball, kho-kho, badminton, basketball, hockey, handball, judo, wrestling and kurash were organised during the three-day event.
Before the closing ceremony, Awasthi inaugurated the newly constructed public digital library at a cost of ₹13.75 lakh at the school.
He encouraged students to participate actively in sports, learn from their shortcomings and continue working towards achieving their goals. He said sports help develop a competitive and positive mindset besides improving physical abilities, self-confidence, teamwork and leadership.
Awasthi also highlighted the role of sports in tackling drug abuse, saying sporting activities can help keep young people away from drugs while providing them opportunities to excel at national and international levels.
Referring to the education sector, Awasthi said the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, was working to provide quality education to every student. He said Himachal Pradesh secured fifth position in the overall national ranking in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2025, which, he said, reflected the state government’s consistent and improvement-oriented policies.
Awasthi announced ₹5,100 for students who presented the cultural programme and ₹21,000 for the organising committee.He also felicitated the winning and runner-up teams for their performance in the sports competition. During the programme, Awasthi heard grievances of local residents and directed the concerned officials to take necessary steps for their prompt resolution.
School Principal Pratap Singh welcomed the chief guest and presented the annual report. Students also presented a cultural programme on the occasion.
