Education Minister Rohit Thakur today participated as the chief guest in the felicitation ceremony of meritorious students organized under the joint aegis of Divya Himachal and Vidyapeeth at Raja Virbhadra Singh Government College, Seema (Rohru).
He stated that the current state government places a premium on education and is committed to ensuring quality education. He added that Himachal Pradesh’s literacy rate has reached 99.30 percent, which is higher than neighboring states. He added that the current government has provided opportunities for meritorious students from Himachal Pradesh to travel abroad for exposure visits.
He stated that during the current government’s tenure, 587 assistant professor positions were filled in the Higher Education Department, and 118 principal positions in the college cadre were filled through direct recruitment and promotion. He stated that 500 assistant professor positions will soon be filled through commissioning.
Congratulating the organizers, he said that the tradition of honoring meritorious students, which has been going on for years, has been given a new direction by moving it from Shimla to Rohru today, for which he thanks them. This will provide new inspiration to the students and bring them respect in the future.
He said that while the budget of other departments has been reduced due to the difficult financial situation, the state government has given priority to the field of education and has made a provision of Rs 10 thousand crore by increasing the budget by 18 percent this year. He said that to improve higher education, Seema College has also been included in the first phase of 133 colleges in the state, from which additional courses will be started in the future. He said that the education system will be further strengthened where the number of students is high.
On this occasion, the Education Minister announced ₹20 lakh for the repair of the college auditorium. ₹4,481,303 has been approved for the multipurpose hall. The tender for this project has been awarded and work has begun. Similarly, ₹8,256,900 has been approved for the girls’ hostel, and work on it will begin soon. ₹2,660,325 has been allocated for the repair of the staff quarters, and work will begin soon.
Local MLA Mohan Lal Brakta addressed the students present at the event and apprised the Education Minister of various demands of the institute and the region. He also wished all the meritorious students a bright future.
On this occasion, District Council Vice President Surendra Retka, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Civil) Rohru Dharmesh, College Principal Lalita Rawat and other dignitaries were present.
