The District BJP today took out a protest rally against the state government in Hamirpur and staged a dharna at Gandhi Chowk. Addressing the gathering, Sadar MLA Ashish Sharma levelled serious allegations of corruption against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and his government, raising pointed questions over land transactions, the construction of Hamirpur bus stand, procurement of robotic surgery equipment and alleged commission-taking. He demanded that the Chief Minister respond to these issues before the people of Himachal Pradesh.
MLA Ashish Sharma alleged that the family of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had purchased approximately 750 kanals of land for a mere ₹70,000, which was subsequently transferred in the Chief Minister’s name for approximately ₹10.60 lakh. Thereafter, the land was reportedly valued at around ₹73 crore. He further alleged that the land, originally purchased at approximately ₹1,378 per kanal, was valued at crores of rupees, following which 2 kanals were sold to a government department at approximately ₹9.73 lakh per kanal.
Questioning the extraordinary increase in the land’s valuation within just a few months, Ashish Sharma asked how such a steep appreciation was justified. He demanded that the Chief Minister explain the basis of the valuation, the procedure followed in selling the land to the government department and who was responsible for the decisions involved. He said that transparency and accountability are essential, particularly in matters involving the family of a person holding public office.
Raising the issue of alleged corruption in the construction of Hamirpur bus stand, the MLA remarked that the bus stand had now become a hub of corruption rather than a public transport facility. He alleged that the construction tender, initially estimated at approximately ₹42 crore, was awarded for around ₹37 crore. However, despite the original tender value, more than ₹100 crore had reportedly been paid to the contractor so far.
Ashish Sharma questioned the Chief Minister over how payments exceeding ₹100 crore could have been made against a tender awarded for ₹37 crore. He demanded an explanation for this substantial difference and asked where the money involved in the alleged corruption was ultimately going. He called for transparency regarding the tender, revised project costs and payments made during the construction.
The BJP MLA also levelled allegations of irregularities and corruption in the procurement of robotic surgery equipment, claiming that the state government had purchased the equipment at prices higher than the prescribed rates. He alleged that commissions amounting to ₹10–12 crore per robot had been taken in the procurement process. Sharma demanded that the Chief Minister clarify why payments exceeding the prescribed rates were made and when the serious allegations surrounding the procurement would be investigated.
Taking a dig at earlier suitcase-related remarks made by a Congress leader, Ashish Sharma said that the leader had previously spoken about five suitcases, with three reportedly going to Delhi and two to Shimla.
