Sarvesh Sharma, Piyush Sharma, Suraj Nadda, and Lakshya Thakur bring glory to Hamirpur with their technological innovation

Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur congratulated and honored Sarvesh Sharma, a student of Hamirpur’s Government Polytechnic College, Baru, and his teammates Piyush Sharma, Suraj Nadda, and Lakshya Thakur for their remarkable technological achievement. He commended the efforts of these young innovators, saying that this endeavor, which began with limited resources, has now reached a significant national defense innovation project.
Sarvesh Sharma developed the initial prototype of the drone at a cost of approximately ₹87,000. Subsequently, his project has been approved for a grant of ₹3.50 crore under the Defence Innovation Organization and Innovations for Defence Excellence, affiliated with the Ministry of Defence. Sarvesh Sharma will now work on the development of the Rudra Edge T-1 (Spectrum) drone, which aims to develop technological solutions for the Indian Army’s border surveillance needs. The project will be incubated at IIT Roorkee and is targeted to be completed in approximately 20 months.
Anurag Singh Thakur said that the achievement of Sarvesh Sharma and his colleagues is proof that talent is not limited to big cities, large institutions, or large resources. The way students from a polytechnic college in Hamirpur have advanced a small-scale prototype by connecting it to a real-life defense need demonstrates the technical capabilities, creative thinking, and confidence of the youth of Himachal Pradesh.
He said that the most important aspect of this achievement is not just the approved grant of ₹3.5 crore, but the connection of a student’s idea from the laboratory to the needs of national security. In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India and the promotion of indigenous technology in the defense sector, such young innovators can play a vital role in strengthening India’s technological self-reliance.
Anurag Singh Thakur said that drones and unmanned systems are poised to play a crucial role in the future in many sectors, including surveillance, disaster management, agriculture, communications, and defense. Therefore, the emergence of Himachal’s youth in this field is particularly encouraging. He said that the hard work of Sarvesh Sharma, Piyush Sharma, Suraj Nadda, and Lakshya Thakur sends a message that if young people are provided with opportunities, guidance, and an environment to utilize their talents, even students from small towns and humble backgrounds can contribute to solving the country’s major technological challenges.
