Kullu, October 4: Traffic restrictions will be in place across key routes in Kullu district from October 6 to 8 in view of President Droupadi Murmu’s proposed visit to Manali and the Atal Tunnel, with the administration announcing diversions and curbs on heavy vehicles as part of the security arrangements.
District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Dr Amit Kumar Sharma has issued orders under Sections 115 and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, based on a traffic management plan submitted by the Kullu police.
Under the arrangements, heavy vehicles will not be allowed to proceed towards the Atal Tunnel from 8 pm on October 6 until noon on October 7. Such vehicles may be restricted or diverted to alternative routes depending on the security requirements.
Traffic movement between Palchan and Atal Tunnel Rohtang will be completely restricted on October 7 in accordance with the President’s proposed programme.
The administration has also imposed restrictions on the movement of all types of heavy vehicles from Rambagh towards Hidimba Temple and Old Manali from October 6 to 8.
Officials said traffic on other routes could also be temporarily stopped, regulated or diverted during the movement of the President’s convoy. Tourists, local residents and other motorists have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow directions issued by the police and traffic personnel.
Emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire tenders, police and security vehicles, as well as vehicles deployed for VVIP duty, have been exempted from the restrictions. Vehicles specifically authorised by the competent authority may also be allowed, subject to security requirements.
