Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Solan, Himachal Pradesh had the privilege of hosting Brother Jerome Ellens during 5-7 February, 2025.
The visit provided an opportunity for insightful discussions on academic excellence, research initiatives, and student engagement at JUIT. Brother Jerome Ellens is a distinguished Leader, Educator, and a Mentor, a proud native of Chennai, had an illustrious journey in the field of education and leadership. Having studied at three prestigious Patrician Brothers Institutions, he earned degrees in Science, Theology, English and Education from the renowned institutions including Loyola College, Chennai and Annamalai University, Chennai.
His passion for education led him to serve as a teacher and later as Principal and Superior at various prestigious Institutions, which includes St. Patrick’s School in Chennai, Mount St. Mary’s in New Delhi, and St. Joseph’s College in Coonoor. As JUIT had the privilege of being the First Private University of Himachal Pradesh and marked in the history, In 1998, Brother Jerome Ellens made history as the first Indian to be elected as Vicar General of the Patrician Brothers, and in 2004, he became the first Indian Superior General, thereby leading the congregation worldwide for over a decade till 2016. His leadership, vision, and commitment to education have left an indelible mark across nations.
Keeping in view of his rich experience in the field of education, the Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor, JUIT, Shri Manoj Gaur Ji had requested Brother Jerome Ellens to be a “special invitee” to our Executive Council, which he gracefully accepted. Shri Gaur Ji believed that his vast experience in the field of Education and leadership shall be of immense value to our students and faculty alike. Shri Manu Bhasker Gaur ji, CEO, JUIT accompanied Brother Jerome Ellens for this very important academic visit to JUIT. Prof R K Sharma, Vice Chancellor, JUIT welcomed Brother Jerome Ellens. Prof Sharma also provided an overview of JUIT’s academic structure, research contributions, and institutional vision. Dean Prof Ashok Kumar Gupta, Dean, Academics and Research along with Brig R K Sharma, Registrar and Dean of Students also welcomed Brother Jerome Ellens, Various heads of departments (HODs) introduced themselves and interacted with Brother Jerome Ellens. A guided tour was conducted across various departments, showcasing cutting-edge research, advanced laboratories, and key academic projects.
Brother Jerome Ellens engaged with students, discussing their academic journey, aspirations, and innovative projects, fostering motivation and inspiration. He motivated students to take their life journey in a positive way with firm determination to achieve goals. He shared various examples and case studies with the students and asked them to take their best shots to achieve life goals. An interactive session with faculty members facilitated discussions on academic growth, interdisciplinary collaborations, and faculty development through the concept of ‘SYNERGY’. Brother Jerome Ellens’ visit to JUIT Waknaghat was highly insightful and productive. His interactions with students, faculty, and leadership reinforced JUIT’s commitment to academic excellence and collaborative learning. The university expresses its heartfelt gratitude for his time and valuable insights and looks forward to continued association in the future.
