A 28-year-old woman lost her life after being struck by debris from a landslide near Aut in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district on Wednesday as relentless monsoon rain triggered widespread disruption across the region.
The deceased, identified as Kiran of Khani village, was travelling with her husband when the landslide occurred near Aut on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway. She died on the spot, while her husband escaped with minor injuries, officials said.
Heavy rainfall also crippled essential services across Mandi district. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, 28 roads were closed to traffic, while 198 electricity transformers and 46 drinking water supply schemes were disrupted due to rain-related damage. Restoration work is underway.
The India Meteorological Department has warned of continued heavy rainfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh over the next few days and has urged residents and tourists to avoid vulnerable slopes, rivers and landslide-prone stretches. Authorities have advised commuters to check road conditions before travelling as intermittent showers continue across the state.
