Shimla
The weather in Himachal Pradesh has suddenly changed, due to which people have started feeling cold in the beginning of June itself. Baralacha, Kunjam, and Rohtang passes have received fresh snowfall of about 4 inches, while other parts of the state witnessed hailstorms and heavy rains accompanied by strong thunderstorms. This sudden change has led to a sharp drop in temperature.
According to the data of the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature of Himachal Pradesh has decreased by 2 to 11 degrees Celsius. Manali has recorded the highest drop of 10.8 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar 8.1 degrees Celsius, Keylong and Mandi have dropped by more than 4 degrees Celsius, while Shimla and other places have seen a drop of up to 3.5 degrees Celsius. This unexpected cold has forced people to take out warm clothes, which are usually packed in the month of June. Una still recorded the highest temperature of 38.4 degrees Celsius, but the cold has increased in other areas.
The Meteorological Department has said in its latest forecast that on Wednesday (today), there is a possibility of strong winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kmph and lightning at some places in Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, Solan and Shimla districts, for which a ‘yellow alert’ has been issued. Light to moderate rain is also expected at some places in the state.
The effect of the western disturbance is expected to remain till June 5, after which a slight improvement in the weather can be seen. However, the Meteorological Department also estimates that this year the monsoon may enter Himachal Pradesh between June 15 and 25. More than normal rainfall is also expected during the monsoon this time, which is good news for the farmers and the state.
