The Youth Red Cross, Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, in collaboration with the District Red Cross Society, Shimla, successfully organized its flagship Plantation Drive on August 10, 2026, in the forest area of Ghandal Panchayat. Conducted under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU, Shimla, the initiative brought together Youth Red Cross volunteers, officials of the District Red Cross Society, and NCC cadets to promote environmental conservation and sustainable community engagement. As part of the drive, nearly 50 saplings of native tree species, including Bann and Deodar, were planted in the designated forest area.
The plantation drive was undertaken with the objective of encouraging ecological restoration, enhancing green cover, and sensitizing young volunteers towards environmental stewardship. The activity was carried out with the support of the District Red Cross Society, Shimla, led by Mr. Gautam, Secretary, District Red Cross Society, Shimla, in coordination with Dr. Rohit Sharma, Faculty Convener, Youth Red Cross, HPNLU, and student members of the Youth Red Cross team. The programme also witnessed enthusiastic participation from National Cadet Corps (NCC) volunteers, whose active involvement reflected a strong sense of social responsibility and commitment towards environmental protection.
The plantation drive reaffirmed the commitment of the HPNLU, Shimla, towards community service, environmental sustainability, and civic engagement. Through such collaborative initiatives, the University continues to encourage students to actively participate in activities that contribute meaningfully to the welfare of society and the protection of the environment.
