Abhilashi University, Chail Chowk, commenced its week-long Anti-Ragging Awareness Campaign with a grand inaugural ceremony on the university campus, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to providing students with a safe, inclusive, respectful and fear-free academic environment.
The inaugural programme was attended by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Deans of various faculties, Heads of Departments, members and coordinators of the Anti-Ragging Committee, faculty members and students.
Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. H.K. Chaudhary reiterated the university’s zero-tolerance policy towards ragging, emphasizing that educational institutions must remain safe spaces where every student can pursue academic excellence, personal development and professional growth without fear, humiliation or intimidation. He urged students to treat one another with dignity and respect and encouraged them to foster friendship, cooperation, empathy and a strong sense of community on campus.
In his message, the Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. R.K. Abhilashi through his message emphasized that ragging has no place in an institution dedicated to education, character-building and nation-building. He called upon students to understand that discipline, compassion and mutual respect are the foundations of a healthy academic environment and appealed to students to become responsible ambassadors of the university and to ensure that every new student feels welcomed, valued and supported.
The Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor, Dr. L.K. Abhilashi in his message, stressed that preventing ragging is a collective responsibility of students, teachers and the university administration. He urged students to speak up against any form of harassment, intimidation or misconduct and assured them that the university would take all necessary measures to protect the dignity, safety and well-being of its students. He also highlighted the importance of creating a culture in which seniors guide and mentor juniors rather than subjecting them to any form of ragging.
During the programme, the Chairman of the Anti-Ragging Committee Dr. D.K. Mishra and the Member Secretary Dr. Ritika briefed the students about the regulatory provisions and guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC). They explained the university’s institutional mechanisms for preventing and addressing ragging, including the functioning of anti-ragging squads, regular monitoring, awareness initiatives and grievance-redressal mechanisms. Students were also sensitized to the serious academic, disciplinary and legal consequences associated with ragging.
The week-long campaign will feature a series of engaging and awareness-oriented activities, including poster-making competitions, slogan-writing contests, awareness rallies and interactive awareness sessions. These activities will provide students with creative and meaningful platforms to understand the harmful consequences of ragging and actively contribute to building a culture of respect, dignity and inclusivity.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the Vice-Chairperson Dr. R. K. Asrani, who expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. R. K. Abhilashi, Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor Dr. L. K. Abhilashi , Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. H. K. Chaudhary Dr. Kapil Kapoor (Registrar), Dr. Narbada Abhilashi (Chairperson, GES), Dr. Promila Abhilashi (Vice-Chairperson, GES) and Sh. Narendra Kumar (Secretary) for their leadership and guidance in strengthening the university’s commitment to student safety and well-being. He also acknowledged the valuable contributions of the Deans, Heads of Departments, Anti-Ragging Committee coordinators, faculty members and students in making the initiative a success.
