A three-storey residential house suddenly collapsed in Chhichhadiyan village of Didag gram panchayat in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district on Wednesday, killing a mother and her daughter and injuring two toddler girls.
The incident occurred in clear weather in the Rajgarh subdivision. At the time of the collapse, two women and two young girls were inside the house. The building reportedly came down suddenly, trapping all four beneath the debris.
On receiving information, panchayat representatives and local residents rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. After considerable efforts, all four trapped persons were pulled out and taken to Civil Hospital Rajgarh in a 108 ambulance. However, the two women died before they could reach the hospital.
The deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Nirmala, wife of Bhim Singh, and 32-year-old Pooja, wife of Amit Rana, residents of Bhawai. The two were mother and daughter.
The two injured children have been identified as one-and-a-half-year-old Ira, Pooja’s daughter, and one-and-a-half-year-old Abhiyana, daughter of Arun. Both are undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital Rajgarh.
According to local residents, Pooja had come to her maternal home for a visit and was pregnant. She was scheduled to return to her in-laws’ home on Wednesday, but the tragedy occurred before she could leave.
SDM Rajgarh Raj Kumar Thakur said two women and two young girls were present in the house when the incident occurred. As soon as the administration received the information, police and administrative teams reached the spot and joined local residents in the rescue operation.
The bodies of the two deceased women were handed over to their families after post-mortem examinations at Civil Hospital Rajgarh. The administration also provided immediate relief to the affected family.
SDM Rajgarh Raj Kumar Thakur, Tehsildar Umesh Sharma and panchayat representatives remained present at the hospital.
The incident has left the area in shock. Local residents have urged the administration to provide all possible assistance to the affected family.
The incident comes just hours after another major accident was reported in Sirmaur, making it the second major tragedy to hit the district within a short span.
