Theme-Based Maha Nati ‘MAA’ to Lead Anti-Drug Awareness Drive at Shimla Summer Festival
SHIMLA: A special theme-based Maha Nati titled ‘MAA (Mothers Against Abuse and Addiction)’ will be organised on June 9 as part of the International Shimla Summer Festival-2026 to spread awareness against drug abuse and promote the safety and empowerment of women and children.
The event will be held near the Police Helpline from 3 pm to 5 pm and will witness the participation of around 250 Anganwadi workers and helpers from various ICDS blocks of Shimla.
Deputy Commissioner Shimla and Chairman of the International Shimla Summer Festival Committee, Anupam Kashyap, said the campaign is centred around the message “Mother’s Love, Society’s Strength”, highlighting the crucial role mothers play in building a drug-free society.
Through cultural performances and public participation, the programme will focus on creating awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse, strengthening family values and ensuring a safer future for children. The Maha Nati will also convey a strong message against violence and drug addiction, with participating mothers pledging to help keep their families and communities free from substance abuse.
The initiative aims to promote the vision of “Empowered Mothers, Safe Childhoods, A Drug-Free Society and a Bright Future.” Women, self-help groups, students, Anganwadi workers and various social organisations are expected to join the awareness campaign.
During the programme, the district administration and the Women and Child Development Department will also disseminate information about Child Helpline 1098 and Women Helpline 181 services.
The district administration has appealed to citizens to actively participate in the awareness drive and contribute towards building a safe and drug-free society.
