Kullu
Kullu Demonstrating its commitment to inclusive adventure tourism and empowerment through outdoor activities, the Chandigarh State Branch of the Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) has organised a special Himalayan trekking expedition for Divyangjan participants to the renowned Sar Pass in Kullu district.
The expedition reported at the YHAI base camp at Seobagh (Left Bank), Kullu, where they underwent acclimatisation and orientation sessions. After successful acclimatisation, the contingent was formally flagged off by Rajesh Jogpal, Founder President-cum-Convener of the YHAI Chandigarh State Branch. The expedition comprises 18 Divyangjan participants, supported by dedicated volunteers, experienced trek leaders and YHAI officials, taking the total strength of the trekking contingent to 43 members. The team will spend four nights at high-altitude camps along the trekking route before returning to the base camp at Seobagh on June 7. Sar Pass is among the most popular and scenic trekking destinations in the Himalayas. The term “Sar” refers to a lake or frozen water body, and the pass derives its name from a small seasonal lake located near the summit, which remains frozen for a significant part of the trekking season.
Beginning from the picturesque village of Kasol and culminating at Barshaini in the Parvati Valley, the trek traverses dense pine forests, traditional Himalayan villages such as Grahan, lush alpine meadows, vast snowfields and the famous snow-slide descent that has made Sar Pass a favourite among adventure enthusiasts.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Jogpal said that adventure opportunities should be accessible to everyone, regardless of physical limitations. He emphasised that such initiatives help build confidence, self-reliance, resilience and social inclusion among Divyangjan participants while encouraging them to discover their abilities through outdoor experiences.
