Mukesh Repaswal said that 7,315 candidates are now in the fray for the upcoming Panchayat elections in Chamba after the completion of the nomination withdrawal process.
The Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer informed that on May 15, the final day for withdrawal of nominations, 1,128 candidates withdrew from the contest. These included 292 candidates for the post of Pradhan, 258 for Deputy Pradhan, 530 for Ward Member, 43 for Panchayat Samiti Member and 5 for Zila Parishad Member.
He said the Panchayat Raj elections in the district will be held in three phases on May 26, 28 and 30, 2026.
According to the final figures, 1,293 candidates are contesting for 319 posts of Pradhan, 1,303 for 319 posts of Deputy Pradhan, 4,013 for 1,793 Ward Member posts, 592 for 135 Panchayat Samiti Member seats and 114 candidates for 18 Zila Parishad seats.
Earlier, a total of 8,479 nominations had been filed for various posts during the three-day nomination process in the district. Out of these, 26 nominations were rejected during scrutiny.
