Road from AG Chowk to Vidhan Sabha to Remain Closed for One Month in Shimla
Shimla, May 15: The District Magistrate, Shimla, has ordered the temporary closure of the road stretch from AG Chowk to Vidhan Sabha from May 19 to June 18, 2026, to facilitate underground utility duct construction work.
According to the order issued by District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap, the closure has been approved following a request from the Assistant Engineer, Benmore Sub-Division-II, HPPWD Shimla-2, and recommendations from the Superintendent of Police, Shimla.
The underground utility duct work will be carried out from Oak Over to Marina Chowk. During the construction period, traffic will be diverted through Cart Road to ensure smooth vehicular movement and minimize congestion in the area.
The administration has directed the executing agency to ensure proper barricading, installation of safety nets, adequate lighting during night hours, and placement of “Road Closed” signboards at AG Chowk and Kennedy Chowk.
Special emphasis has also been laid on pedestrian safety, particularly for school children and senior citizens, during the execution of the project.
