Inter-school folk dance competition ‘Riturang’ marks the grand opening of week-long cultural festival dedicated to former Principal Late Mrs. Sunita John

Auckland House School commenced its week-long cultural extravaganza ‘Zephyr’ on Monday, marking 160 years of educational excellence, tradition and holistic development. The festival has been dedicated to the cherished memory of former Principal Late Mrs. Sunita John, whose visionary leadership continues to inspire generations of students.
The celebrations began with ‘Riturang’, an Inter-School Folk Dance Competition that witnessed enthusiastic participation from ten leading schools of Shimla, including Laureate Public School, Auckland House School for Boys, Chapslee School, Ivy International School, Loreto Convent Tara Hall, Bishop Cotton School, Convent of Jesus and Mary, St. Thomas’ School, Shimla Public School and Auckland House School.
The event showcased India’s rich cultural heritage through vibrant folk dance performances representing diverse traditions from Gujarat, Bengal, Assam, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Punjab and other regions. Students captivated the audience with colourful costumes, energetic choreography and artistic presentations that reflected the country’s unity in diversity.
Dr. Anurita Saxena, Principal of RKMV College, attended the event as the Chief Guest, while renowned classical dance experts Dr. Vishal Kumar and Dr. Usha served as judges.
After a closely contested competition, Auckland House School secured the first position. Shimla Public School finished second, while Convent of Jesus and Mary claimed the third position. Loreto Convent Tara Hall received the consolation prize for its commendable performance.
The inaugural event set the tone for the week-long celebrations, reaffirming Auckland House School’s commitment to nurturing talent, preserving cultural values and encouraging students to excel beyond academics. The festival will feature a series of competitions and activities aimed at promoting creativity, collaboration and holistic learning among young participants.
