Shimla, September 2: Himachal Pradesh Mahila Congress president Tripta Thakur on Wednesday accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of being “anti-Dalit” and alleged that those who raise their voice against the alleged humiliation of Dalits are being targeted through FIRs.
Referring to the FIR registered against Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Thakur said the action was a reflection of the BJP’s alleged approach towards those who speak up for Dalit rights.
Thakur also criticised the alleged “purification” of a venue in Uttarakhand after a programme attended by the Congress national president, saying the incident exposed what she described as the BJP’s “anti-Dalit mindset”. She demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise to the country, alleging that the incident amounted to an insult not only to the Congress president but also to the Constitution.
She said the Mahila Congress would launch a public awareness campaign against the BJP in Himachal Pradesh and highlight issues concerning students and the education sector.
Thakur said the organisation would take forward the issues raised under Rahul Gandhi’s campaign, including alleged irregularities related to NEET and CBSE, and inform people about what she termed the BJP government’s “failures”.
She further said the Mahila Congress would not tolerate any alleged insult to its national leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, at any level.
