Shimla, June 2: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has claimed a significant political victory in the Chamiyana Zila Parishad ward, a development being viewed as a breakthrough in the Congress-dominated Kasumpti Assembly constituency ahead of the 2027 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections.
BJP candidate Khush Vikram Sen emerged victorious in the Chamiyana ZP ward, ending nearly 25 years of Congress dominance in the region. Political observers believe the result could have far-reaching implications for the electoral battle in Kasumpti, represented by Congress MLA and Cabinet Minister Anirudh Singh.
The victory has sparked celebrations among BJP workers, with a large gathering reported at Junga to congratulate Khush Vikram Sen. Interestingly, both Khush Vikram Sen and Anirudh Singh belong to prominent royal families of the region.
The result is being seen as a setback for Congress, particularly as Anirudh Singh had reportedly campaigned extensively across all 17 panchayats of the Chamiyana ward. Despite these efforts, voters backed the BJP candidate in significant numbers.
Political analysts note that the Chamiyana election carries importance beyond a single Zila Parishad seat, serving as an indicator of changing political equations in the constituency before the 2027 Assembly polls.
Kasumpti has remained a Congress bastion since 2002, electing Congress representatives for five consecutive terms. However, local residents continue to raise concerns over inadequate administrative infrastructure, lack of an SDM office, scattered government services, and limited healthcare facilities in several parts of the constituency.
District BJP spokesperson Jitendra Bhotka alleged that Congress had failed to deliver meaningful development despite years in power and relied primarily on electoral promises.
The Congress party has not yet officially responded to the BJP’s claims regarding the broader political significance of the Chamiyana result.
