Shimla
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda’s recent two-day visit to Himachal Pradesh has set political circles abuzz, with many viewing it as more than a routine organisational tour and linking it to the BJP’s preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections.
Although party leaders described the visit as part of regular organisational activities, Nadda’s meetings with BJP workers, senior leaders, journalists and various stakeholders have triggered discussions about the party’s future strategy and leadership plans in the state.
Addressing a press conference in Shimla, Nadda dismissed speculation about a possible return to active state politics. He said his responsibilities currently lie at the national level and that he would continue to discharge them from Delhi. Referring to former chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, Nadda said the BJP already has strong leadership in Himachal Pradesh and future developments would depend on circumstances at the appropriate time.
Nadda also ruled out the possibility of any immediate political role for his family members. When asked whether his wife or son could enter politics in the future, he said there was no such plan and maintained that he alone was enough for politics in the family. The remark was widely interpreted as a message distancing himself from dynastic politics.
The visit attracted additional attention due to the absence of former minister Suresh Bhardwaj, a key BJP leader from Shimla. Political observers noted that Bhardwaj’s absence from major engagements during the visit raised eyebrows and led to speculation about evolving political equations within the party.
Bhardwaj has remained active in Shimla’s political landscape in recent months, with many seeing his outreach efforts as part of preparations for the next Assembly elections. At the same time, political activity among BJP leaders from Mandi, Hamirpur, Kangra and Shimla has intensified, adding to discussions about future leadership contenders within the party.
Political analysts believe that while Nadda has firmly denied any plans to shift his focus from national politics to Himachal, his visit has sent important signals about the BJP’s organisational priorities and long-term electoral strategy. The tour, they say, reflects the party’s intent to begin groundwork well ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
With political activity expected to gather momentum over the coming months, all eyes will now be on the BJP’s internal dynamics and the leaders who emerge at the forefront of the party’s next electoral campaign in Himachal Pradesh.Headline: Nadda’s Himachal Visit Sparks 2027 Poll Buzz, Fuels Leadership Speculation
