Shimla, July 14: A retaining wall damaged by a landslide near Phanevti village on the Dubloo–Junga road has raised concerns over the safety of a nearby house following recent heavy rainfall.
Taking stock of the situation, Chamyana Zila Parishad member Khush Vikram Sen conducted a joint inspection of the affected site along with Janedghat Gram Panchayat Pradhan Suchita Anand, Public Works Department (PWD) officials and local residents.
During the inspection, the team assessed the risk posed to nearby houses due to the damaged retaining wall and ongoing slope instability. Sen urged PWD officials to immediately undertake safety measures at the site and initiate permanent restoration work at the earliest.
He said the Dubloo–Junga road serves as a vital lifeline for farmers, students, patients and residents of the area. The road had remained closed for more than 10 days during last year’s monsoon due to heavy rainfall, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
Describing the route as the only major road link connecting several villages with Shimla, Sen stressed the need to ensure uninterrupted traffic movement and long-term protection of the road.
He said he is coordinating with the state government and the concerned departments to ensure the safety of affected residents and expedite a permanent solution. Sen also urged the government and the PWD to take immediate action to provide relief to people in the area.
