Shimla, June 4: Demonstrating its commitment towards protecting children and ensuring justice in cases involving minors, Shimla District Police has secured the conviction of an accused in a serious POCSO case.
The case was registered on December 7, 2024, at Jubbal Police Station under Section 65 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The complaint alleged the commission of a grave sexual offence against a minor girl.
Considering the sensitivity and seriousness of the case, police immediately initiated an investigation while ensuring the safety, privacy, and confidentiality of the victim and her family. The investigation was conducted in accordance with legal procedures and child-sensitive protocols.
During the course of the investigation, the police team collected crucial evidence related to the incident. The victim’s statement was recorded as per law, and medical, scientific, circumstantial, and technical evidence were gathered and thoroughly examined. Based on the findings, a strong charge sheet was prepared and submitted before the court within the stipulated timeframe.
Throughout the trial, the police and prosecution worked in close coordination to effectively present evidence and witnesses before the court. As a result, the Hon’ble Fast Track Court, Shimla, on June 3, 2026, convicted Anshul, son of Keval Ram, a resident of Jubbal Tehsil, Shimla district, in the case.
The court sentenced the convict to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo an additional one month of simple imprisonment.
Shimla District Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and children and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for victims and bringing offenders to justice.
