Two daughters of Chidgaon area of Shimla district met Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap on Friday after winning gold medal in the fourth Boxing India Open International Kick Boxing Tournament held from 1 February to 5 February 2025 at KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium, Delhi. The Deputy Commissioner also felicitated Sanika Laltwan and Dikshita Shilal on this occasion.
He said that it is important to make sports an important part of your life to stay away from addiction. While sports keep the body healthy, employment opportunities are also available. Many schemes have been run by the state government for national-international level sports. Apart from this, reservation is also provided to players in government services.
The Deputy Commissioner said that both the daughters have not only brought laurels to the area but also to the entire Himachal Pradesh. Both the players will be given an opportunity to play an important role in the campaign being run by the district administration against drug abuse so that the youth can be encouraged to stay away from drugs.
Sanika Laltwan daughter of Shamsher Singh village Sandhadi post office Khabal tehsil Chidgaon has won the gold medal in the category of low kick mines 56 kg. Sanika’s final match was played with a player from Nepal. Giving information, Sanika said that since childhood I was fond of watching Chinese films. There was kick boxing in it. But there was no one around us to teach me. Then I started playing Wushu in 2016 and participated in state level games in Wushu. Then in 2018, I also learned Taekwondo at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex Shimla. In 2023, I won the gold medal in kick boxing for the first time in Khelo India held in Shilaru. After this, I won the fourth bronze in the National. But this time I won the gold medal in the international kick boxing tournament. Dikshita Shilal, daughter of late Keshav Ram Chauhan, village Diswani, post office Kaloti, tehsil Chidgaon, has won the gold medal in the Gala Kick Boxing minus 60 kg category. She has been doing kick boxing since 2018. In 2019, Dikshita won the gold medal in the Senior National. In 2022, she again played in the Senior National and won the silver medal. She won the gold medal in the 2023 Khelo India and in 2025, she became the first player from India to win a belt in the Gala Fight of Kickboxing.
Both the players have attributed their success to their parents and coach Virendra Jagishta.
Both the players opened an academy in Chidgaon
Sanika and Dikshita have been running the Himalayan Warrior Martial Arts Academy in Chidgaon for the last 6 months. Giving information, both the players said that Chitta has spread a lot in our area and the young generation is moving towards addiction. That is why we have opened our academy there so that we can involve children in sports from school level itself and ensure our responsibility in saving our area from drug addiction. He has appealed to all the parents to involve their children in sports and play their role in keeping them away from drug addiction. He said that an academy can be opened anywhere, but we also have a responsibility towards the area we come from. There was no academy in that area. Although we have less children today, gradually the number will increase, and we will achieve success in the goal of making our area drug free.
