Shimla, June 18: Vehicular movement on the Dhalli–Sanjauli Bypass has partially resumed after authorities restored one-way traffic on the route that was blocked following a major landslide, bringing relief to commuters in Shimla.
The landslide had severely disrupted traffic on one of the city’s key arterial roads after a large amount of debris came crashing onto the roadway, forcing authorities to close the stretch completely. The closure affected commuters travelling towards Dhalli, Sanjauli, Lakkar Bazaar and adjoining areas, while traffic was diverted through alternate routes, leading to congestion and increased pressure on other roads across the city.
Following continuous efforts by teams of the Public Works Department (PWD), district administration and police, a significant portion of the debris has been cleared, allowing the restoration of one-way vehicular movement on the affected stretch.
Officials said restoration work is still in progress and the area remains vulnerable due to the risk of further landslides. Traffic personnel have been deployed to regulate the movement of vehicles and ensure commuter safety.
The partial reopening of the bypass is expected to ease traffic congestion on alternative routes that had witnessed heavy vehicular load since the road closure. Authorities have advised motorists to drive cautiously and follow traffic instructions while passing through the affected area.
Meanwhile, debris removal and road stabilization work are continuing on a war footing. The administration has assured the public that updates regarding the complete restoration of two-way traffic will be issued once the route is declared fully safe for travel.
