Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has notified June 27, 2026, as the date for the first meetings of newly constituted Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) across the state following the recently concluded panchayat elections.
According to a notification issued by the Department of Panchayati Raj, the decision has been taken under Section 128(1) of the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Act, 1994. The first meetings will be held for newly elected Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads across the state.
However, the notification excludes Gram Panchayats Jaban and Namhog in Anni development block, Karjan and Soyal in Naggar development block, as well as Panchayats and Panchayat Samitis in Keylong subdivision of Lahaul and Spiti district and Pangi subdivision of Chamba district.
For these excluded areas, the first meeting of newly elected representatives has been scheduled for October 18, 2026, the notification said.
The government further stated that during the first meeting of each Gram Panchayat, the oath or affirmation will be administered to newly elected members by the concerned Pradhan in accordance with Rule 22 of the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj (General) Rules, 1997.
The notification was issued by the Department of Panchayati Raj and circulated to deputy commissioners, district panchayat officers, block development officers and the State Election Commission for necessary action.
