Shimla, August 22: The Himachal Pradesh government will recruit 4,000 multi-task workers in the Jal Shakti Department, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said in the state Assembly on Saturday.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur, the Chief Minister said the government was moving forward with the process of filling vacant posts in the department to strengthen its functioning.
Sukhu said vacant posts in the Public Works Department, Jal Shakti Department and the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board would be filled in a phased manner. The recruitment of 4,000 multi-task workers in the Jal Shakti Department, he said, would be an important step towards addressing staff shortages.
The Chief Minister also said that the Electricity Board would recruit Bijli Mitras against available vacancies. Executive engineers concerned would be authorised to make appointments based on vacancies in their respective areas.He said priority would be given to local youth in the recruitment of Bijli Mitras, which would create employment opportunities at the local level while also supporting the functioning of the Electricity Board.
Sukhu said the previous BJP government had abolished the posts of Beldars and introduced the recruitment of multi-task workers. The proposed recruitment of 4,000 workers in the Jal Shakti Department would help address the shortage of staff, he added.The state government said filling vacancies across various departments would not only strengthen administrative and departmental functioning but also create new employment opportunities for the youth of Himachal Pradesh.
