Shimla, August 22: A fresh controversy has emerged during the Himachal Pradesh Assembly’s Monsoon Session, with BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma accusing three senior police officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP), of breach of privilege.
Sharma, the BJP MLA from Dharamshala, has submitted a notice of breach of privilege to Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, seeking action against the officials. He alleged that the Vigilance Department summoned him for questioning while the Assembly session was underway, amounting to a violation of the privileges of an elected legislator.
According to Sharma, the matter under investigation was registered in Dharamshala, but he was called to the Vigilance office in Shimla for questioning. He alleged that issuing such a notice during the Assembly session was an attempt to mentally harass him and exert political pressure.
The BJP MLA is facing a Vigilance Bureau investigation in a disproportionate assets case. The investigating agency is examining his sources of income, movable and immovable properties, bank accounts, investments and financial transactions.According to the information available, earnings from the stock market, land transactions and other financial activities are also under the scope of the investigation.
The development has now placed the spotlight on Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, who will decide the future course of action on the breach of privilege notice filed by the BJP legislator.
