The Centre for Personal Law Studies (CPLS) and the Matrimonial Dispute Resolution Cell of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, successfully organized an expert lecture on the topic “Succession Laws in India: Gender Justice and Recent Developments with Specific Reference to Hindu Laws” on May 21, 2026. The programme aimed at fostering academic discourse on evolving succession laws, constitutional values, and gender justice within the framework of personal laws in India.
The distinguished Chief Guest and resource person for the session was Prof. (Dr.) Poonam Pradhan Saxena, a renowned academician and expert in the field of personal laws. The session commenced with a welcome address delivered by Dr. Sarita, who highlighted the contemporary relevance of succession laws and the growing discourse surrounding gender justice in India’s legal system.
During the lecture, Prof. (Dr.) Poonam Pradhan Saxena deliberated upon recent developments in succession laws with particular emphasis on Hindu laws and the evolving interpretation of gender justice. The discussion focused on changing inheritance rights, significant judicial pronouncements, and the increasing role of constitutional principles such as equality, dignity, and non-discrimination in shaping personal laws. The lecture also emphasized the importance of harmonizing traditional legal structures with modern constitutional values to ensure substantive justice and inclusivity.
