Rotary Club Shimla donates advanced screening device worth ₹5.25 lakh to aid early detection of cervical cancer.
SHIMLA, May 30 In a significant step towards strengthening women’s healthcare services, Rotary Club Shimla on Friday donated a Digital Colposcope Machine to Kamla Nehru Hospital at a function held at Rotary Town Hall.
The advanced medical device was formally handed over to Dr. Sita Thakur, Principal of Kamla Nehru Hospital, along with Dr. Rita Mittal, Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Professor Dr. Nishi Sood.
The digital colposcope will play a crucial role in the early screening and detection of cervical cancer, one of the most common cancers affecting women. Its handheld and portable design makes it particularly useful for outreach programmes, allowing healthcare teams to conduct screenings during medical camps in rural and remote areas.
Healthcare experts present at the event said the machine would help improve access to timely diagnosis and preventive care for women across Shimla and adjoining rural regions, where awareness and screening facilities often remain limited.
The equipment, valued at approximately ₹5.25 lakh, has been provided by Rotary Club Shimla with CSR support from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Chandigarh.
Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of early cancer detection and preventive healthcare, stating that the initiative would strengthen community health services and contribute to better health outcomes for women.
Rotary Club Shimla reaffirmed its commitment to continuing social welfare and healthcare initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for communities across the region.
