Shimla: With the monsoon increasing the risk of contamination of water sources, SUEZ India and the Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL) have issued an advisory urging residents to take precautions against water-borne diseases.
The advisory cautions residents against diseases such as jaundice, diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid, which can spread through contaminated water and food, particularly during the rainy season.
Residents have been advised to boil drinking water for at least 10 minutes before consumption, avoid exposed or uncovered food and maintain proper personal hygiene. People have also been urged to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water to reduce the risk of infections.
According to the advisory, the risk of contamination of water sources rises during the monsoon, potentially leading to an increase in gastrointestinal infections.
SUEZ India and SJPNL are jointly operating Shimla’s 24×7 water supply project, with the stated objective of providing residents with safe, high-quality drinking water directly through household taps.
