The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) highway patrolling team displayed exceptional courage and prompt action by rescuing a seven-month-old infant on oxygen support after heavy rain and landslides blocked the Chamba–Bharmour National Highway in Himachal Pradesh.
Continuous rainfall triggered landslides along the highway, with large boulders crashing onto the road and bringing traffic to a complete halt. Vehicles were stranded on both sides, leaving hundreds of commuters trapped.
Among them was a seven-month-old baby, who was being transported to hospital on oxygen support. With the road completely blocked and the infant’s condition worsening, the family faced a life-threatening situation.
Recognising the urgency, the NHAI highway patrolling team immediately stepped in. Despite the risk posed by ongoing landslides and falling rocks, the team safely evacuated the infant across the affected stretch and ensured the child reached hospital in time for medical treatment.
The rescue has drawn widespread appreciation, with the NHAI team’s swift response being hailed as a remarkable example of dedication, professionalism and humanity during a natural disaster.
