Shimla, 30 December
Shimla Municipal Corporation has given the gift to the city residents on the new year. Citing the orders of the High Court, the Municipal Corporation has decided to charge a fee for the use of 30 toilets in Shimla city. Earlier, the Municipal Corporation was charging five rupees from women for using the toilet, and this facility was free for men, on which now MC House is going to charge a fee.
Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Surendra Chauhan said that the High Court had given orders for gender equality regarding charging fees from women and not charging fees from men in public toilets, on which now MC House has decided to charge the same fee as women in 30 public toilets of the city where there is a large crowd of people, for which the mechanism is being made.
It has been decided to make cards for shopkeepers and people working for them and charge them a fixed fee of Rs. 100 or Rs. 150 per month, while the public will be charged the same fee as women. The mayor said that this should not be seen as a toilet tax because the cost of cleaning and maintenance of the toilet also has to be taken into account.
