Shimla: In a major cost-cutting measure amid ongoing fiscal challenges, the Himachal Pradesh government has enforced a ‘One Officer, One Government Vehicle’ policy, directing that every officer will be entitled to only one official vehicle regardless of the number of departments or additional charges they hold. All extra government vehicles attached to such officers have been ordered to be withdrawn and returned to the General Administration Department.
The decision is part of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government’s broader austerity drive aimed at reducing non-essential expenditure and improving the utilisation of government resources. Officials said the move is expected to streamline the official vehicle fleet, curb unnecessary spending on fuel and maintenance, and strengthen fiscal discipline across departments.
