Shimla June 14
The district administration has granted temporary permission to Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL) to carry out pipeline laying work on the Chaura Maidan–Peterhof stretch under the city’s transmission network project, officials said.
According to an order issued by Shimla District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap, the work will be undertaken daily between 8 pm and 8 am and will continue until July 9, 2026. The permission was granted based on a report submitted by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Shimla.
The pipeline installation forms part of Package-10 of the transmission network project being executed by SJPNL.
Authorities clarified that traffic on the route will not be completely suspended during the construction period. Instead, one-way traffic movement will be regulated and controlled to ensure smooth passage and minimize inconvenience to commuters.
The order directs the executing agency to strictly comply with environmental and noise pollution norms. Special precautions have been mandated in sensitive zones, including areas near hospitals, educational institutions and residential localities.
To ensure road safety, the agency has been instructed to deploy adequate traffic management measures, including traffic marshals, reflective jackets, warning signboards and barricades at the work site.
The administration has also emphasized that the movement of pedestrians, ambulances and fire tenders must remain uninterrupted throughout the execution of the project. Further, no debris, excavated material or construction equipment should be left on the roadway after work hours, and the route must be cleared for traffic.
The district administration and police have appealed to residents and commuters to cooperate during the construction period and exercise patience. In case of any emergency, citizens have been advised to immediately contact the concerned local administration or police officials.
