Hamirpur: A police officer was injured after a dog was allegedly set upon a police team that had reached Tiyala Da Ghat in Hamirpur district to investigate a suspected drug-related case, police said.
The incident took place at around 10.30 pm on Sunday after the Hamirpur police station and Bhota Police Assistance Post received secret information about the suspected supply of drugs through a vehicle.
When the police team reached the spot, a suspicious vehicle was found parked along the roadside near a residential house. As the officers approached the vehicle and questioned a person sitting in the front, another man sitting in the rear allegedly fled into the house and released a dog.
The animal then attacked the police personnel. While two officers managed to escape the attack, a third officer was bitten on the abdomen, leaving deep wounds.
Police said two women also allegedly intervened and attempted to obstruct the officers during the operation. A case has been registered against five people—three men and two women—for their alleged involvement in the incident.
The injured police officer was taken for medical examination and administered an anti-rabies injection.
Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Balvir Singh said the police officer had been bitten by the dog and that a case had been registered against the accused. Further investigation and legal action are underway.
