Dharamshala, October 5: With the aim of making the general public aware about the conservation of wildlife, importance of biodiversity and balance between nature and human life, various awareness and participation based activities are being organised in the district by the Forest Department under Wildlife Week.
In this connection, a street play was organized today at Kachhari Adda Dharamshala, where folk media artists delivered the message of wildlife conservation. On this occasion, forest officials and members of the public also wrote messages for wildlife conservation on white boards.
CF Basu Kaushal informed that during Wildlife Week, several programmes are being organised in various areas of the district ensuring the participation of students, youth and local people. This year Wildlife Week is being celebrated from 2nd to 8th October and its theme is Conservation of Wildlife for Protection of Health and Livelihood. The aim of these activities is to sensitise people about the importance of wildlife, conservation of their natural habitats and preservation of biodiversity. He said that wildlife is an important part of our ecosystem and without their conservation a healthy and balanced environment is unimaginable.
He said that various activities, including street plays, bird watching, nature walks, and painting competitions, are being organized during the week. Through street plays, the public is being given the message of wildlife conservation, prevention of poaching, reducing human interference in forest areas, and protecting wildlife habitats.
Similarly, bird watching and nature walks are being conducted to introduce participants to the local biodiversity. Participants are provided with information about various bird species, flora, and natural habitats, so that the younger generation can gain a closer understanding of nature and develop a sense of responsibility for its conservation.
On this occasion, DFO Amit Sharma said that the activities being organized during Wildlife Week are not just awareness campaigns limited to a week, but their aim is to develop a lasting sense of nature conservation among the people and to make wildlife conservation a campaign of public participation. He said that active participation of every section of the society is necessary in wildlife conservation. He called upon the people to cooperate in the conservation of wildlife and their natural habitats and to play their role in maintaining cleanliness in the forests, preventing forest fires, and adopting sensitive behavior towards wildlife.
On this occasion, children who participated in a painting competition on the theme of wildlife conservation were also awarded. Through their paintings, the children effectively conveyed the message of conservation of wildlife, forests, and nature.
