Keylong, August 14: Traffic movement on three major routes in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti district will be restricted for specified hours from September 27 to 29 during the 6th Rally of Himalayas-2026, according to an order issued by the district administration.
Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana, exercising powers under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, has ordered the closure of the designated routes for all vehicles other than rally and emergency-service vehicles during the scheduled periods.
On September 27, the Gramphu Junction-Kaza route will remain closed from 3 am to 1.30 pm. The following day, September 28, traffic on the Kaza Junction-Jispa route will be restricted from 3 am to 1.30 pm. On September 29, the Darcha Junction-Shinkula route will remain closed from 4 am to 6 am.
The administration said the restrictions were necessary to ensure the safety of participants and the public, facilitate traffic management and protect the environmentally sensitive region during the rally.
The order also lays down environmental guidelines for participants and support teams. The use of pressure horns has been prohibited, while unnecessary honking has been barred near hospitals, government offices, educational institutions and other designated silence zones.
Rally vehicles will have to remain on existing roads and designated routes, with off-road driving in forest areas prohibited. Participants have also been directed to comply with forest and wildlife protection laws.
The administration has prohibited the dumping of plastic, garbage and other waste along rally routes and in surrounding forest areas. Setting up tents or carrying out other activities in forest areas without prior permission from the competent authority will also not be allowed.
Participants have been asked to ensure that the rally does not disturb wildlife and to maintain discipline while passing through environmentally sensitive areas.
The district administration has directed the concerned departments to make adequate arrangements for traffic regulation and safety so that the event is conducted in a safe, orderly and environmentally responsible manner.
