Shimla, June 3
Himachal Pradesh Police has initiated swift legal action following an incident in the Secretariat area of Shimla, where a group of individuals allegedly entered a restricted zone without permission and staged a protest, causing disruption to traffic and inconvenience to the public.
According to police officials, a case has been registered at East Police Station, Shimla, under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to obstruction of public ways, disobedience of lawful orders, and causing public nuisance.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the protesters gathered in a prohibited area despite the availability of designated locations for demonstrations. The gathering reportedly affected traffic movement in and around the Secretariat complex, leading to inconvenience for commuters and local residents.
In an official statement, Himachal Pradesh Police reiterated its commitment to respecting the democratic right of citizens and organizations to express their views peacefully and lawfully. However, the police emphasized that blocking public roads, disrupting traffic, or causing inconvenience to the general public in violation of the law would not be tolerated.
Authorities stated that the investigation is underway and all individuals found responsible during the course of the probe will face legal action as per the law.
