Shimla: The Shimla district administration has notified transportation rates for the movement of apple boxes during the 2026 apple season and warned that strict legal action will be taken against transport operator unions found guilty of overcharging growers.
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said the rates for trucks, mini trucks and four-wheeler pickup vehicles have been fixed on a per kilometre, per quintal basis to ensure uniformity and prevent exploitation during the peak harvesting season.
As per the notification, the approved transportation charges are 95 paise for trucks and other vehicles up to Delhi, ₹1.30 for trucks and other vehicles up to Chandigarh, ₹2.30 for pickup vehicles for distances up to 20 km, ₹2.50 for pickup vehicles covering more than 20 km, and ₹1.30 for Eicher four-wheelers (Tata 407).
The Deputy Commissioner said any truck, mini truck or pickup operator union found charging more than the notified rates will face legal action under the applicable provisions. The administration has urged growers and transporters to adhere to the notified rates to ensure smooth transportation of apple produce during the season.
