    Bahra University, Shimla Hills, has officially announced the commencement of QUEST 2026 – Orientation & Induction Programme, a comprehensive student induction initiative designed to warmly welcome the newly admitted batch for the academic session 2026–27. The week-long programme will begin on 5 August 2026 and continue till 11 August 2026, introducing students to the University’s academic ecosystem, innovation-driven learning environment, industry-oriented curriculum, campus culture, and holistic development opportunities.

    The QUEST 2026 Orientation Programme has been carefully curated to ensure a smooth transition for freshers into university life. The programme will provide valuable insights into academics, research opportunities, placements, internships, student clubs, entrepreneurship, digital learning platforms, mentoring systems, and career development initiatives.

    Speaking on the occasion, Prof. R. P. Singh, Vice Chancellor, Bahra University, said:

    Solan, July 15: Bahra University and Government PG College Solan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic collaboration through student exchange, faculty interaction, research initiatives, skill development programmes and career-oriented activities.

     

    As part of the collaboration, final-year science students from Government PG College Solan visited the Waknaghat campus for a one-day academic exposure programme aimed at providing hands-on experience in higher education, research and innovation.

     

    During the visit, students toured the university’s laboratories, research facilities, innovation centres and academic departments. They also attended career guidance sessions, interacted with faculty members and gained insights into emerging technologies, scientific research and industry-oriented learning. The programme was designed to bridge the gap between classroom education and practical applications while encouraging students to explore higher education opportunities.

     

    Vice-Chancellor Prof. R. P. Nainta said partnerships between universities and government colleges play a key role in promoting holistic student development. He said Bahra University remains committed to building institutional collaborations that provide students with practical exposure and academic excellence.

     

    Registrar Vineet Kumar (Ex-IFS) said the university regularly partners with government colleges across Himachal Pradesh through laboratory demonstrations, exposure visits, faculty interactions, workshops, career counselling sessions and academic exchange programmes. Such initiatives, he added, help students build confidence, strengthen practical knowledge and prepare for future careers.

     

    Government PG College Solan Principal Prof. Maneesha Kohli appreciated the university’s efforts in providing meaningful academic exposure to students. She said such programmes broaden students’ perspectives and motivate them to pursue higher education, research and innovation.

    The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the E-YUVA Centre and iHUB Shoolini at Shoolini University organised a one-day international symposium on ‘Advances in Natural and Applied Sciences’, bringing together scientists, researchers, academicians and students to deliberate on emerging developments in molecular medicine, cancer biology, phytochemistry, drug discovery and allied research areas.

    The symposium was attended by Shoolini University Chancellor Prof. P. K. Khosla, Pro Chancellor Prof. Vishal Anand, Registrar Dr. Sunil Puri, faculty members, research scholars and students.

    Addressing the gathering, Chancellor Prof. P. K. Khosla highlighted the importance of international scientific collaboration, knowledge exchange and innovation-led research in addressing emerging challenges in healthcare, pharmaceutical sciences and sustainable development. He said partnerships between universities and research institutions are essential for translating scientific discoveries into solutions that benefit society.

    Welcoming the delegates, Dr. Deepak Kumar, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Chief Coordinator of the E-YUVA Centre, said international scientific interactions play a vital role in promoting collaborative research and academic excellence. He also highlighted the growing importance of natural products in drug discovery, noting that medicinal plants continue to offer promising therapeutic compounds with minimal toxicity.

    The symposium featured a keynote address by Prof. Surat Laphookhieo, Dean, School of Science, Mae Fah Luang University, Thailand, who delivered a lecture on ‘Phytochemical and Biological Activities of Annonaceae: From Chemical Diversity to Bioactive Leads’. He explained how the rich chemical diversity of the Annonaceae family has led to the identification of bioactive compounds with significant potential for future pharmaceutical applications and drug discovery.

    Another technical session was delivered by Dr. Kitiphong Khongphinitbunjong, Associate Dean, School of Science, Mae Fah Luang University, Thailand. He shared recent advances in honey bee health, bee products and disease management, highlighting their relevance to sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation and global food security.

    Dr. Arun Kumar, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Shoolini University, spoke on the design and synthesis of novel heterocyclic and natural compounds as potential anticancer agents. He outlined the role of medicinal chemistry in developing new therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment.

    The symposium concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Th. Abhishek Singh, Coordinator, E-YUVA Centre, who acknowledged the contributions of the speakers, organising team and participants. He said the symposium provided an important platform for scientific exchange, international collaboration and interdisciplinary research.

    Shoolini University celebrated Innovation Day by crossing 2,000 Intellectual Property (IP) applications — a landmark that reflects eleven years of building one of India’s most active university innovation ecosystems. The innovation journey began in 2015.
    Presenting the annual patent report, Dinesh Kumar, Director, Shoolini Intellectual Property Rights Office (SIPRO), thanked all innovators for their dedication and acknowledged the university management’s continuous support in building the IP ecosystem.
    According to the report, Shoolini University has filed 2,000 IP assets to date, comprising 1,224 utility patents, 512 design applications, 247 copyrights, and 17 trademarks. Of these, 989 patents have been published and 656 intellectual properties have been granted or registered. During 2025 alone, the university filed 182 patent applications, 37 design applications, and 51 copyright applications, with 180 patents published and eight patents granted during the same period.
    The event recognised the university’s leading innovators.
    Among the Top Patent Filers of 2025, Dr Raj Kumar Saini from the School of Engineering and Technology secured the first position with 17 patent applications, followed by Prof. Somesh Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, with 15 filings. Prof. Pankaj Raizada from the School of Advanced Chemical Sciences and Prof. Deepak Kumar, Dean, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, filed 12 patents each.
    In the school-wise category, the School of Agriculture led with 29 patent applications, followed by the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences with 23, and the School of Engineering and Technology with 21. Special recognition was accorded to representatives of the SIPRO IPR Lab at the Shoolini Institute of Life Sciences and Business Management (SILB), who filed 10 patent applications in under a year.
    A defining focus of the celebration was the university’s One Student, One Patent campaign, under which every student is encouraged to develop patentable ideas and contribute to innovation beyond the classroom.
    Chancellor Prof. P.K. Khosla reiterated the university’s commitment to the One Student, One Patent movement, urging students and faculty to identify solutions to real-world challenges and transform their ideas into patents. “Innovation should become an integral part of every student’s academic journey,” he said.
    Pro Chancellor Vishal Anand encouraged students and researchers to back their ideas with confidence. “Innovation thrives when people are willing to experiment, learn, and transform ideas into practical solutions,” he said.
    Vice Chancellor Prof. Atul Khosla praised innovators for their dedication and perseverance, and set an ambitious target for the community — 10,000 patents in the years ahead.
    Registrar Dr Sunil Puri recalled the early days of patent activity at Shoolini, noting that Chancellor Prof. P.K. Khosla had consistently encouraged faculty and researchers to embrace intellectual property creation. “The vision set years ago has now become one of the institution’s defining strengths,” he said.
    Prof. J.M. Julka, Director Planning, described the milestone as a glorious achievement and noted that even small ideas can evolve into valuable patents when nurtured within a supportive ecosystem.
    Himanshu Sharma, Senior Manager, SIPRO, outlined the road ahead. SIPRO has set a target of 300 utility patent filings in 2026 and aims to cross 3,000 cumulative IP applications by next year. The office also aims to achieve at least 300 published patents and 25 granted patents annually. Sharma urged researchers to file Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications to strengthen Shoolini’s standing in international rankings, including QS and Times Higher Education.
    The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Richika Mehta, IPR Attorney at SIPRO, who expressed gratitude to the university leadership, innovators, faculty, students, and the SIPRO team for their contribution to building a culture of innovation.

    Phone seized, forensic probe underway after girls’ hostel privacy breach allegations

     

    Eternal University was rocked by protests after allegations surfaced that a sanitation worker secretly recorded videos inside a girls’ hostel washroom, triggering panic and outrage among students.

     

    Police in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district have arrested the accused and registered a case under multiple sections. According to the Superintendent of Police, the suspect’s mobile phone has been seized and sent for forensic examination to determine whether videos were recorded or shared.

     

    Officials said the investigation is currently focused on one accused, but all angles of the case are being examined thoroughly.

     

    Students caught accused while trying to flee

     

    The incident reportedly took place at the university campus in Badu Sahib under Rajgarh subdivision. Students alleged that a hostel sanitation worker was using a mobile phone to secretly film girls inside the hostel premises.

     

    Suspicion among students quickly escalated into protests inside the campus. Sources said the accused, believed to be a native of Jharkhand, attempted to flee after being confronted, but alert students caught him and handed him over to the police.

     

    Attempt made to delete data

     

    Investigators suspect the accused tried to delete content from his phone before arrest. Police are now examining whether any material was transferred to another device, shared on social media, or circulated among individuals.

     

    Questions raised over university administration

     

    The controversy has also raised questions over the role of the university administration. Sources indicated that the matter was initially attempted to be handled internally before police were informed following growing protests by students.

     

    Police have reportedly seized phones of other staff members linked to the case as part of the ongoing probe. Authorities say further revelations may emerge as the forensic investigation progresses.

The scholarship facility is available across engineering, pharmacy, management, commerce, arts, science and several undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes.

    Speaking about the blend of Indian culture and modern education, Gupta said the university is making special arrangements for potable drinking water facilities on campus and creating awareness among students regarding its health benefits.

    Panchkula: In a significant initiative aimed at promoting health awareness and preventive care, IEC University organised a free physiotherapy camp at the Panchkula District Court Complex on Tuesday. Around 40 patients, including advocates, judicial officers and court staff, benefitted from the camp.

     

    The camp was conducted by the Health Department of the university located at Atal Shiksha Kunj, Kalu Jhanda, and focused on spreading awareness about physical well-being and the importance of physiotherapy in daily life.

     

    Hon’ble District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Sandhir attended the programme as the chief guest. Hon’ble CJM Vinod Kumar, Bar Association President Rakesh Sharma and Secretary Kulbir Saini were also present on the occasion.

     

    Addressing the gathering, Judge Sanjay Sandhir highlighted the growing importance of physiotherapy in today’s fast-paced lifestyle. He said prolonged sitting hours and hectic work routines often lead to physical discomfort among lawyers and court employees, making such health camps highly beneficial.

    Baddi (Himachal Pradesh): IEC University Baddi, located at Atal Shiksha Kunj, organised a free health check-up camp for its teaching and non-teaching staff on campus in collaboration with Metaphase Diagnostic Centre New Chandigarh.

     

    The camp aimed at promoting preventive healthcare, raising awareness about lifestyle diseases, and ensuring early detection of potential health issues among employees.

     

    An expert medical team from Metaphase Diagnostic Centre, including Dr. Vikas Dubey along with healthcare professionals Harmeet Singh, Amit, and Firoz Alam, conducted the screenings and consultations.

     

    A range of diagnostic tests were carried out, including Complete Blood Count (CBC), lipid profile, Vitamin B12 levels, Liver Function Test (LFT), Renal Function Test (RFT), and blood sugar analysis. Participants also underwent general physical examinations and received one-on-one consultations.

     

    Doctors provided personalised advice to employees based on their reports, focusing on balanced diet, regular exercise, and lifestyle modifications to prevent chronic diseases.

    Shoolini University marked Earth Day with a day-long national seminar on ‘Our Power, Our Planet – Inspiring Sustainable Action through Science and Community’, bringing together academicians, researchers and students to discuss science-driven solutions and community-led action.

    Organised at the Tagore Seminar Hall by the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences, the seminar was held in collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences India (NASI), Chandigarh Chapter, and the Society for Promotion of Science and Technology in India.

    The opening session highlighted the significance of Earth Day, emphasing the need for scientific innovation alongside community participation to address environmental challenges.

    Founder Chancellor Prof PK Khosla urged students and researchers to take a proactive approach to sustainability. Dean of Sciences Prof Sunil Puri spoke about the importance of responsible resource use for a better future.

    Prof KK Bhasin, Secretary, NASI–Chandigarh Chapter and Emeritus Professor, Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh, spoke on the role of scientific institutions in advancing sustainable development. He said collaboration between academia, research bodies and communities is key to translating scientific knowledge into practical solutions.

    Prof PB Barman, Professor and Head, Department of Physics and Materials Science, Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, spoke on the role of nanotechnology in sustainability. He highlighted how green nanotechnology can support energy systems, environmental clean-up, water purification and agriculture.

    Prof RK Kohli, former Vice Chancellor, Amity University Punjab, Mohali, addressed the theme of governance and sustainability. He said long-term progress depends on balancing conservation with development.

    The seminar also featured student research presentations and poster sessions aligned with the theme, encouraging academic engagement and new ideas.
