Shimla Police has taken a big step by arresting the Tehsil Welfare Officer involved in the Chitta smuggling network. After busting the Shah Gang, the police have now taken down the Gurmeet Gang and apprehended this government official. Investigations have revealed that the accused officer was running the drug business in collusion with interstate drug smuggler Vijay Soni. He was not only providing safe havens to the smugglers but also supplying other necessary facilities. Police have so far busted the Radhe Gang, Ranjan Gang, Shahi Mahatma, Shah Gang, and now the Gurmeet Gang, arresting numerous accused.
Gurmeet, the kingpin of the interstate network, has been arrested.
Gurmeet, a major kingpin of interstate drug smuggling, has been arrested by Shimla Police. He had been supplying Chitta in Shimla and surrounding areas for a long time. According to SP Sanjeev Gandhi, two accused associated with the Sandeep Shah Gang have also been apprehended by the police. They have been identified as Ankita Negi, a resident of Malyana, Shimla, and Mukul Chauhan, a resident of Dudhli village, Shimla district. Notably, Mukul Chauhan was working as a Tehsil Welfare Officer in Shimla.
Other smugglers associated with various gangs have also been caught.
Accused Neeraj Jilta, associated with the Shahi Mahatma Gang, who was running a drug network in Rohru, was arrested by the police on Tuesday. He had been absconding since the case was registered. Meanwhile, the police have arrested Vijay Soni from Solan after taking him into custody.
The SP stated that Karan, a resident of Guddu Mal Building, Sanjauli, Shimla, and Gurmeet Singh (23), a resident of VPO Mahmuana, Faridkot district, under Dhali Police Station, have been apprehended with 100.590 grams of Chitta. Additionally, 3.36 grams of Chitta and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash have been recovered from Kuldeep Thakur alias Monu, a resident of Sarkasan, Sarkaghat Tehsil, Mandi district (currently residing in Malyana, Shimla).
Danish alias Bhanu, a resident of SDA Colony, Vikasnagar, Shimla, under Chhota Shimla Police Station, has been arrested with 1.83 grams of Chitta. Police are thoroughly investigating this network, and a search is underway for other accused.
