Under the World Bank project, work is in full swing on the plan to provide 24-hour water to the capital Shimla. On Thursday, the World Bank’s expert team along with officials of the water management company inspected the Dhali storage tank and took stock of the situation. Under the scheme, a network of drinking water lines has also been laid in the Demo Zone wards. Under the scheme of providing 24 hours water, the problem of low pressure will also be eliminated because high pressure valves have been installed in the drinking water lines.
Under the project to lift water from Sutlej river to Shimla, a water storage tank has been constructed at Dhali to store 10 MLD water. Officials of the Water Management Company informed the team that drinking water lines have been laid from Shakrodi to Shimla, the work of which has reached the final stage, a target has also been set to start water supply to Shimla from May 2025. At the same time, a tank has been constructed in Peterhof to store 7 MLD water.
The team also visited the city’s sewerage treatment plant and gave instructions to upgrade it. At the same time, the left out areas in the city have also been asked to be connected with sewerage facility. The World Bank team is visiting the field every day to inspect the progress of the project. The team has instructed the water management company to complete the work within the stipulated time so that the residents of Shimla can get the benefits of this scheme as soon as possible.
