Yellow-orange alert for two days of heavy rain and snowfall has been issued in eight districts of Himachal Pradesh. This change in weather is expected due to the activation of western disturbance. According to Meteorological Center Shimla, there is a yellow alert for heavy rain, snowfall and thunderstorm for Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra and Lahaul-Spiti on January 5. Whereas on January 6, orange alert has been issued for Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra and Chamba districts. Today also there may be rain and snowfall at one or two places in some hills.
Weather may remain bad at some places on January 7 also. The weather is forecast to remain clear in the entire state from January 8. Shimla is also sunny today with light clouds. There is no possibility of any major change in the minimum temperature in the state during the next 24 hours. The minimum temperature is likely to fall by 4-5 degrees Celsius in the middle and high mountain areas during the next 2-3 days. At the same time, the maximum temperature is likely to fall sharply by 5-6 degrees Celsius.
Forecast of heavy rain and snowfall at these tourist places
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of widespread rainfall in Himachal Pradesh from the afternoon of January 5 to the morning of January 6, 2025. At the same time, light to moderate snowfall is likely at many places in the middle and high mountain areas of the state from the afternoon of January 5 to the morning of January 7, with heavy snowfall likely at some places. Heavy rain and snowfall is likely at some places of most tourist destinations including Shimla city, Kufri, Narkanda, Dalhousie and Manali on January 5 and January 6. There is a possibility of lightning and thunderstorms at some places in the lower hilly/plain areas and mid-hill areas of the state on January 5 and 6.
The minimum temperature was recorded at Shimla 10.4, Sundernagar 3.0, Bhuntar 3.0, Kalpa 0.7, Dharamsala 5.8, Una 3.0, Nahan 9.1, Keylong -2.3, Palampur 10.5, Manali 5.1, Kangra 7.5, Mandi 5.7, Bilaspur 6.3, Hamirpur 5.1, Chamba 7.7, Dalhousie 10.9, Kufri 10.9, Kukumseri -1.9, Narkanda 7.6, Bharmour 8.2, Reckong Peo 3.8, Dhaulkuan 6.2, Seubagh 4.5, Barthin 3.8, Samdo -4.5, Kasaili 15.2, Paonta Sahib 8.0, Sarahan 0.3, Tabo -8.4 and Bajaura 3.1 degrees Celsius. There is a 35-45 percent chance that many parts of Himachal Pradesh will receive below normal rainfall during January-March 2025, except some parts of Kinnaur district and Lahaul-Spiti district will receive above normal rainfall. Some parts of Chamba, Kangra, Una, Hamirpur districts and adjoining areas of Solan district will receive normal rainfall. There is a 50-75 percent chance that during January 2025, the average minimum temperature will be above normal in most parts of the high hilly areas and adjoining mid-hill areas of the state, while the average minimum temperature in the lower hilly areas / plains will be below normal.
On Saturday, Shimla city recorded the highest maximum temperature of January so far (23.1 degree Celsius). The previous highest maximum temperature (22 degree Celsius) was recorded on the previous day. At the same time, the highest maximum temperature of the month of January (29 degree Celsius) was recorded in Solan on 4 January. Earlier, the highest maximum temperature (27.5 degree Celsius) was recorded on 26 January 2007. Una recorded 21.6, Nahan 24.6, Sundernagar 26.0, Bilaspur 25.6, Hamirpur 27.4, Barthin 27.5 and Jubbarhatti recorded 25.4 degree Celsius.
