A theft incident has been reported from a jewelry shop in Gumma Bazaar of Kotkhai police station area. Around 3 to 4 am, two unidentified thieves broke the lock of the shop and stole silver jewelry worth lakhs. Shop owner Pappu Soni (45), who originally hails from Begusarai district of Bihar and has been living in Kotkhai Darbar for a long time, told the police that when he reached the shop in the morning as usual, the locks were found broken and the silver jewellery was missing.
Police station in-charge Ankush Thakur said that a case has been registered and investigation has been started. The value of the stolen jewellery has been estimated to be Rs 5 to 6 lakh. Police are scanning CCTV footage and the search for the suspects is on.
Gumma Vyapar Mandal chief Devendra Chauhan expressed concern over the incident and demanded strengthening of security in the market area. He urged the administration to increase night patrolling and keep a close watch on suspicious activities. He also appealed to the traders to install CCTV cameras and other security equipment in their shops so that such incidents can be prevented in the future.
