Alka, Daughter of Satlai, Wins Gold Medal in World-Level Yogasana Competition
Shimla, June 14:
Alka Sharma, a young girl from a rural background, has brought pride to Himachal Pradesh and the Kasumpti constituency by winning a gold medal at a world-level Yogasana competition.
Alka Sharma is the daughter of Ram Saran Sharma and Poonam Sharma from Katainya Majhar village in Satlai Gram Panchayat, under Junga Tehsil. She is currently studying in Class 8 at Acharyakulam, Haridwar. After completing her education up to Class 5 at a private school near Fagu, Chiyog, she enrolled in Acharyakulam in 2023 for Class 6.
According to her uncle, Raj Kumar Sharma, Alka won the gold medal in the Supine Individual Yoga category of the junior division at the recently concluded world-level Yogasana championship held in Ahmedabad. The competition witnessed participation from representatives of 78 countries from around the world.
He explained that supine yoga postures, which are performed while lying on the back, are highly challenging. Alka trained for these events under the guidance of retired army officer Udayveer Singh Yadav, who voluntarily provides coaching at Acharyakulam.
A few months earlier, Alka had also secured a top position in a national-level Yogasana competition held in Sonipat, which earned her selection for the world championship.
Both of Alka’s parents serve as teachers in the Education Department. Her father, Ram Saran Sharma, said that Alka has been an exceptionally talented student since childhood. She has always been deeply inclined toward spirituality, which motivated the family to enroll her at Acharyakulam, a school associated with Patanjali Yogpeeth.
When contacted by phone, Alka said that Acharyakulam not only teaches yoga but also imparts spiritual education. She explained that yoga helps keep the body healthy while also providing mental peace, relieving stress, and helping individuals understand the deeper truths of life.
Alka added that her next dream is to represent her talent in Yogasana at the Olympics, and she is determined to work tirelessly toward achieving that goal.
